Trail blaze your way around the Myrick Center
using your natural curiosity and imagination to discover the
magic of summer. You’ll go on a hunt for critters, search under
rotting logs, peek at buzzing insects, find fragrant flowers and
much more! There are games to play, songs to sing, and stories
to be told as you unravel the mysteries of the summer season.

Garden Adventure

Have you ever wondered how your food grows? Try
your hand at planting seeds and harvesting fruits & vegetables.
You’ll play games, create food art and search for bugs in our

Which animals live in the water and how do they
survive? Find out as we plunge into a week of water
adventures! You’ll visit the pond and stream to search for baby
animals, play water games and listen to stories as you discover
some of the native animals who make water their home!

Stream Sleuths

Do you like to play in water? Visit streams,
ponds and wetlands in search of the plants and animals that love
wet habitats. Learn why some places are wet and why others are
dry. Investigate how streams form and the different ways they
meander through the landscape. Create your very own stream
model to take home! $170 members / $225 nonmembers
Creepy Crawlies
June 28 – July 2

Caterpillars, spiders, beetles, and slugs! How
much do you know about these fascinating creatures? Meet a bug
expert and see some unique insects up close. Sneak up on some
creepy crawlies and discover what they are eating. Use a video
microscope to magnify an insect’s exoskeleton. Maybe these
critters aren’t so creepy after all!

Find all of the watery spots at the Myrick Center
and explore them to see how much fun you can have! You’ll have
a chance to get wet every day while you play water games,
explore the pond and the creek, and run through the sprinkler!

Paws,
Paints, and Wild Landscapes

Are you a future wildlife artist? Join us for
fun-filled nature explorations and a chance to paint, draw, and
create artistic masterpieces! Practice recording your
observations in your very own nature journal and take pictures
using a digital camera. Visit the animals at the
Barn at Spring Brook Farm to be artfully inspired.

Wacky
Water Games

Did you know that water covers 75% of our Earth?
There’s even water in the air. You’ll play all kinds of games
during this watery week. Conduct experiments with water and its
different states, explore the Myrick Center in search of water
and
tube down the Brandywine Creek. You’ll get really wet this
week! $185 members / $235 nonmembers
Call
of the Wild
June 21 – June 25 FULL

Walk on the wild side while exploring the world
of predator and prey, examine creatures of the water, search for
animals in field, forest and sky, and poke under a
not-so-lifeless log. Visit Saalbach Farm to explore and swim in
Rock Run and experience an evening hike with your family when
animals are most active, at dusk. The family hike will be on
Tuesday from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Siblings are invited!

Little
House on the Preserve
August 2 – August 6 FULL
Rediscover the fun of candle making, churning
butter, and making bread as you go back in time to the
not-so-distant past. Learn about homesteading and sustainable
living while playing outside during camp! Take a trip to
Coverdale Farm to visit some of the animals you may have
taken care of long ago and Saalbach Farm to cool off like the
first homesteaders. $255 members /

First
People of the Brandywine

Use your imagination to travel further back in
time, long before the settlers from Europe arrived. View the
Myrick Center as the Lenape once did, the original people of
this land.
Tube along the Brandywine searching for places that you
would have lived, play Native American games, learn about and
harvest edible wild plants and make a fire to cook your lunch
one day. $185 members / $235

Outdoor Extremists

Experience a week filled with outdoor
challenges. Start off by getting to know your fellow campers at
a high ropes course, play Frisbee golf,
kayak the Brandywine Creek and challenge yourself to find
the way while orienteering and hiking.

Creek Adventures
July 26 – July 30 FULL
Spend the week exploring the local watersheds.
Hike along the Brandywine and Red Clay Creeks and
canoe down an out-of-the-way stretch of the Brandywine.
Stop along the way for a night of camping and creek side night
sounds. Pick up is at

Lenape
Drills and Skills
July 19 – July 23 FULL
August 2 – August 6 FULL
Primitive, prehistoric, ancient, primal,
original, 100% natural with nothing added. Learn what this is
all about when you spend time in the wild finding food, building
shelter, and learning to make fire, the Lenape way. Would the
Lenape have adopted you into their tribe? Practice ancient
skills such as the throwing arts,
canoeing the Brandywine, archery, tracking and making a bow
drill fire. You’ll visit Saalbach Farm and camp overnight at
the Myrick Center on Thursday night.
Pick up is at

Form &
Function
June 28 – July 2 FULL
Try your hand at functional, low-impact,
Earth-friendly art. For inspiration you’ll
canoe the Brandywine Creek and visit the extraordinary home
and workshop of
Wharton Esherick, an acclaimed, local artist. Then, channel
your inner-eco artist by building a cob bench, working with clay
and carving a wooden spoon from a poplar tree.

Short
and Sweet Adventures
July 7 – July 9 (Wednesday-Friday) CANCELLED
These three days are a great way to continue your
long holiday weekend! Wednesday you’ll go for a
canoe trip on the Brandywine. Thursday, you’ll leave for
Point Pleasant, PA for some
outdoor rock climbing, with a guide, at High Rocks followed
by overnight camping. Friday, you’ll
tube down the Delaware River before returning home.
Pick up is at
5:00 PM on

Something Fishy
July 19 – July 23 FULL
If you like to fish, or want to learn how to
fish, this is the week for you! Learn about different types of
equipment and how to use it while exploring some great
freshwater and saltwater fishing spots. You will learn the art
and science of fly casting and how to tie your own flies.
You’ll fish at a local pond and in the Brandywine Creek. On
Thursday you’ll head to
coastal Delaware for an overnight camping and saltwater
fishing expedition. You’ll fish off a pier, in the surf and
aboard a chartered fishing boat in the Delaware Bay for some
inshore fishing. Along the way, learn about saltwater and
freshwater ecosystems and fish biology. Even if you
participated in the past, there’s ALWAYS more to learn! Your
guide for this unique journey will be an avid outdoorsman and
naturalist, BVA/RCVA’s own Executive Director, Jim Jordan.
Pick up is at

Ages 13-15
Expedition: Pine Barrens
June 28 – July 2 CANCELLED
Ready for a nature expedition? Hone your
naturalist skills by observing plants and animals while
canoeing the Brandywine Creek and hiking at the spectacular
Serpentine Barrens at
Nottingham County Park. Then, visit the
New Jersey Pine Barrens for hiking and canoeing through
another unique ecosystem. Top off your expedition with camping
under the stars on Thursday night and swimming in the Atlantic
Ocean! Pick up will be at
5:00
PM on Friday.

Expedition: Poconos
July 12 – July 16 Still room to register!
This expedition begins with a
kayak trip down the Brandywine Creek. You’ll hike along the
Brandywine at the newly protected
ChesLen Preserve and then compare the landscapes of our
Valley with the rock formations at the higher altitude of the
Pocono Mountains. In the mountains you’ll take a hike to visit
the “Niagra Falls of the Poconos,” also known as
Bushkill Falls, and campout overnight under the stars on
Thursday. Pick up will be at
5:00 PM on Friday.
