Fairies and Gnomes
June 27 – July 1 FULL
Use your imagination to explore the magical lands
of the Myrick Center woods in search of elves and other ethereal
friends. Create miniature fairy and gnome houses and tiny boats
of leaves and sticks to float in the pond.

Wings and Things
July 18 – July 22
Bugs, birds and bats have one big thing in
common, they all have wings! What other things do they have in
common? What’s different? Explore the soaring world of the
winged and make some flying things of your own.

Water World

There’s water in the pond and in the stream.
There’s water underground and even water in the air! Learn
about our watery world by exploring all of the places water can
be found at the Myrick Center. You’ll play water games and get
really wet every day! $100 members/$150

Little Lenape

Look for signs of animals, smell the aromas of
certain crushed leaves, taste blueberries in the garden, listen
to the wind and birds, feel rough bark and cool water. Have fun
using all of your senses just like the Lenape people who once
roamed these forests. $100 members/$150

Nature Detectives
June 27 – July 1 FULL

Are you a nature spy? With magnifying lens in
hand, become a detective! Find out the difference between a
frog and a toad, an insect and a spider. Learn to appreciate
the details of nature with help from a video microscope and
uncover clues to solve a “whodunit” nature mystery!

Mudventures
July 11 – July 15 FULL
July 25 – July 29 FULL
Mix mud and adventure together for a fun-filled
time! Get to know nature like never before by looking for
things like salamanders, squishy egg masses, animal scat and owl
barf! You’ll visit the
Barn at Spring Brook Farm to meet the animals and help them
cool off. Enjoy cooling off yourself by walking through the
creek and splashing in the sprinkler!

Den Dwellers
July 18 – July 22
There’s a hidden world under your feet! There
are critters who live in dark and damp places and they’re
waiting for you to discover them. We’ll explore under rocks and
logs, and in dens and crevices to find all the critters who
aren’t afraid of the dark. Make your very own terrarium to take
home. $165 members/$215 nonmembers
Dinosaurs, Past and Present
August 1 – August 5 FULL

Do you want to know more about dinosaurs? Did
you know that dinosaurs were giant reptiles? That means they
have living relatives! Come learn about their distant family
members and dig for fossils. You’ll be sure to meet a reptile
and get an up close look at amphibians and birds of the area
while having fun with dinosaur discoveries!

Earth Art
August 8 – August 12 FULL
Join us for nature-inspired, hands-on, creative
projects to express the beauty of the great outdoors! We’ll be
using our imagination while watercolor painting, drawing and
working with clay. Seek artistic ideas in the brilliant colors
of the organic garden, the lush green plant life around the
pond, and the coolness of the woods!

Forces of Nature
June 27 – July 1
July 18 – July 22 FULL
Wind, water and fire generate extraordinary
events on planet earth. You’ll learn about the power of
volcanoes, earthquakes and tornadoes. You’ll fly a kite, go
pond fishing,
tube down the Brandywine Creek, learn how to make a fire and
even construct your own erupting volcano!

Girls’ Nature Camp
FULL / Boys’ Nature Camp

Yes, it’s an ALL GIRLS’ CAMP and ALL BOYS’ CAMP!
Your camp will choose from a huge list of activities to design
your own week of camp. You can catch frogs at the pond, build a
fort, learn about edible plants, practice yoga outdoors or cook
lunch over a fire and much, much more! Combine forces later in
the week for a game of skill and speed and for a combined
tubing trip down the Brandywine!

The poet Frost said “Two roads diverged in a
wood, and I--I took the one less traveled by, And that has made
all the difference.” Go on a Quest to find your way around the
Myrick Center, use a map to tackle an orienteering adventure and
visit local parks to go geocaching one day and letterboxing
another. Then hide your own cache at the Myrick Center for
another group to find! Round out the week and stay on track by
tubing a less traveled stretch of the Brandywine Creek.

You Rock
August 1 – August 5
Are you from the Stone Age? Crack open geodes to
investigate their hidden treasures. Visit
Ringing Rocks Park to experience a geologic phenomenon and
observe rocks and fossils up close at the North Museum! Travel
to BVA’s
Saalbach Farm to practice flint knapping, making stone tools,
and exploring the Rock Run Creek. You’ll have a smashing time!

EcoVentures
August 8 – August 12 FULL
Many ecoventures await you! You’ll spend the
week paired up with the BOLT campers (13-15 year olds) as you
play games,
tube
on the Brandywine,
rock climb
at a local gym and fish at a nearby pond. On Thursday night,
from 7:00 – 8:30 PM, bring your family to the Myrick Center to
participate in twilight activities led by BOLT. You’ll have fun
experiencing all of these things with your new friends!

Adventures High and Low
August 1 – August 5 FULL
Discover what lies below the ground when you
climb through, over, around and further into a deep, dark cave.
Get past your fears of the dark by visiting
Indian Echo Caverns on Wednesday. Leave for an
outdoor rock climb and a wild caving trip, led by an
experienced spelunker, on Thursday morning. Camp overnight, and
return on Friday. Pick up is at
4:00 PM on Wednesday and 4:00 PM on Friday.

Hawks and Rocks on the AT
June 27 – July 1 FULL
This is your chance to hike a section of the
Appalachian Trail (the AT)! The AT is 2,175 miles of trails
that connect Georgia to Maine. You’ll have an opportunity to
hike a small section of the Pennsylvania portion of the AT,
explore the spectacular “blue rocks” glacial deposit, visit
Hawk Mountain and
camp nearby on Thursday night. Earlier in the week you’ll
visit the
John James Audubon Center in Valley Forge Park and meet a
raptor up close then go
kayaking and bird watching along the Brandywine Creek. You
may even see a bald eagle! Pick up is
at
3:00 PM on Friday.

The Olympians
July 11 – July 15
FULL
Greek mythology comes alive at Camp Half-Blood.
Summon your godlike abilities for a game of capture the flag,
learn how to throw a javelin and hone your
canoeing skills while floating down the Brandywine Creek.
Discover how and where to best view the Perseid meteor shower
which will peak this weekend and follow clues to find Zeus’
stolen lightening bolt. You’ll even visit the
Camden Aquarium to dive into Poseidon’s realm. Come
prepared for the quest of your life!

Extreme Creek Week
July 11 – July 15 FULL

Thinking of that hot summer weather and wishing
you could go swimming? Now you can, along with
kayaking AND tubing! Spend your week splashing your way
around the watershed by
tubing down the Delaware River, kayaking on the Brandywine
Creek and swimming in a local creek. Extreme Creek Week is not
for the meek! $280 members /$330

Wilderness Survival
July 25 – July 29 FULL
Become one with Les Stroud, Survivor Man, when
you start the week off by building a primitive shelter in the
woods. Later, practice your aim on the archery range and
explore the creek at BVA’s Saalbach Farm. You’ll not only
canoe the Brandywine Creek, you’ll also go
kayaking this week! Spend Thursday evening under the stars
and cook dinner over the fire when you camp out at the Myrick
Center. Pick up is at

Local Lore and Legends
July 18 – July 22 FULL
The Brandywine Valley is bursting with tales of
unique characters and notable places. Delve into the story of
Indian Hannah and see where she was born and her memorial site.
Trek to the Stargazer’s Stone to stand where Mason and Dixon
once stood in 1764 and visit the place where “The Robin Hood of
Coatesville” hid out after stealing from the rich. You’ll even
explore the countryside like the Lenape and first settlers did,
by
canoeing the Brandywine Creek. The legends live on!

13-15

BOLT for the Outdoors
(Two
Week Camp) CANCELLED
August 1 – August 5 AND August 8
– August 12
Is it lightning? Is it a canine superhero? Is it
a rock band? Google BOLT and you’ll find anything but
what it really is: the BVA/RCVA’s
“Basic Outdoor Leadership Training!”
Can you light a one-match fire? Swamp and rescue a canoe? Be
part of a team climb? Make an authentic S’more over a
campfire? Learn outdoor and leadership skills while building
your own team during week one. You’ll go to a local
ropes course, develop and perfect your
canoe skills on the Brandywine and spend Thursday night
camping out at the Myrick Center. In week two, you’ll
put these skills into action by working with the 8-9 year old
EcoVentures camp. You’ll cheer on your new friends
as they climb at the rock gym, help bait their hooks as they
fish at a local pond and guide them down the Brandywine in tubes
as you canoe alongside. Thursday night, you’ll lead
twilight activities for the campers and their families, and then
camp out one last time. This training will provide you
with a certificate of completion telling schools and future
employers that you are an Outdoor Leader protecting the planet,
leading by example and teaching future stewards how to do the
same. Talk about a superhero! Pick up on Friday,
July 15th and Friday, July 22nd is at
11:00 AM.

Shooting Stars
June 21 – June 24 (Tuesday-Friday) FULL
Become a shooting star as you take part in our
marksmanship challenge. Learn how to safely shoot a bow and
arrow, air rifle, 22 caliber rifle and shotgun. Craft your own
spear and slingshots, learn how to throw a tomahawk and discover
why accuracy was so important to the Lenape. You’ll visit a
shooting range to learn how to shoot trap and skeet and spend a
day canoeing the Brandywine Creek. Your leader for this
adventure will be BVA/RCVA’s Executive Director, Jim Jordan, a
certified Hunter Safety and Shooting Instructor with over 20
years of experience teaching the shooting sports. This camp
will be under safe and strict supervision! All equipment will be
supplied, no experience necessary. $325 members/ $375
nonmembers.
Something Fishy
July 18 – July 22 FULL
If you like to fish, or want to learn how to
fish, this is the week for you! Learn about different types of
equipment and how to use it while exploring some great
freshwater and saltwater fishing spots. You will learn the art
and science of fly casting and how to tie your own flies.
You’ll fish at a local pond and in the Brandywine Creek. On
Thursday you’ll head to
coastal Delaware for an overnight camping and saltwater
fishing expedition. You’ll fish off a pier, in the surf and
aboard a chartered fishing boat in the Delaware Bay for some
inshore fishing. Along the way, learn about saltwater and
freshwater ecosystems and fish biology. Even if you
participated in the past, there’s ALWAYS more to learn! Your
guide for this unique journey will be an avid outdoorsman and
naturalist, BVA/RCVA’s own Executive Director, Jim Jordan.

Expedition: Adventure
June 27 – July 1
A week of endless thrilling adventures! Go
hiking on Monday. On Tuesday you’ll go mountain biking.
Kayak the Brandywine on Wednesday. Thursday, leave for a
white water rafting and camping trip in
Jim Thorpe, PA where you’ll cook dinner over the fire after
an exciting week of adventure! Pick up
is at
5:00 PM on Friday.
