Bug’s Life

Meet squiggly,
squirmy insect friends! Try your luck at catching them using a
net, by turning over logs and looking under leaves to find cool
bugs. Hear bug stories, play bug games and create your very own

through the sprinkler and get hands-on with crazy, earth
friendly crafts. Join us as we play and learn about being good

Crawly things fascinate you? Join us this week as we explore the
amazing world of insects. Make worm or ant farms, dip-net at

Prepare for
outdoor life! Can you build a fire? Set up a tent? Harvest your
own food from the garden? Follow a map? Learn all these skills
plus how to hunt, fish and grow food; living off the land like
the Lenape Indians did 400 years ago. Play games, create
survival tools, but best of all, get wet and muddy! You will

a nearby farm for hands on-activities, including bottle feeding

Myrick

! You might also encounter evidence left behind by animals
during outdoor activities like hiking trails, building forts in
the woods and tubing down the beautiful

that insects can be hunters, crushers, venomous killers, weather
predictors and bloodsuckers?!
Explore this amazing world of insects at BVA by using
video microscopes, setting secret insect traps and observing
your collection from an insect box that you hand make! Head to
the Brandywine Creek, nearby ponds and woods and seek out crazy
critters as we explore. Complete
the transformation of an outdoor adventurer by playing fun
games, tromping through the mud, tubing and splashing with
friends, and much more! $200

Are you ready
to put the EXTREME into this Outdoor Extremes Camp?!
Rock walls, tomahawks and campfires might help!
Take yourself to the next level as we visit a local rock
climbing facility, cook a light lunch and marshmallows over a
roaring camp-fire, and practice throwing tomahawks. Complete the
week plunging and splashing in tubes down the adventure-filled
Brandywine

Put on your Super
Suit! Become an Incredible
Eco-Hero! Help save
our planet with fellow campers; first design your own Eco-Heroes
cape. Next, complete eco-projects to earn hero “star”
badges– including a tree planting, participate in a ‘Clean
the
Brandywine
’ tubing trip and submit your collections in the trashy
treasures competition! During the week, you will visit Delaware
Museum of Natural History’s “Water’s Extreme Journey”
and explore the fun, interactive exhibits. These adventures and

Adventures!

The most
Epic camp of all is here for you!
Unlike video games, this camp is REAL! Have you ever gone
fishing, cooked the fish over a fire and sampled the freshly
cooked fish? You will during this week of camp! You will also
make hand-make candles, try sawing wood like a lumber jack, and
get down and dirty with farm chores at a nearby colonial
destination. Of
course, you will have plenty of time for getting muddy,
exploring the outdoors, building shelters and playing silly
games. Finish this
Epic Adventure week with a tubing and kayaking trip down the
beautiful
Brandywine

Mudders

Start your
summer off right with a splash in the Brandywine Creek!
Bring your mud shoes and swim suits -- leave all homework
behind! Swim and
seine for awesome aquatic creatures at
Laurel
’s Preserve, spend a day on the creek kayaking, and wrap-up
the week with a splash’tacular tubing trip!
You will have time to dry off between water adventures at
the
Myrick
Center
participating in outdoor games, mud obstacle courses, and
explorations with your friends. $250

On
the Prowl - with Overnight

How cool would it be to have night vision? To breath
through your skin? To
sleep upside down? Join
us this week to examine these traits and more within the amazing
world of animals. Care for visiting reptiles and use your hands
to collect and release other cool critters in our pond and
streams. Wrap up this week of animal adventures with a
Brandywine kayaking adventure and campout at the
Myrick
Center
. After dark, search
for nocturnal animals, set up a bait station to collect animals
tracks, and call for owls! It’s
sure to be a howling good time!

Your skin will
be sure to crawl as we inspect the Myrick Centers woods, pond
and streams for wacky invertebrates. Get wet and muddy at the
Schuylkill
Center

Philadelphia
as we continue our insect explorations. Discover small creatures
with amazing powers and search for unseen creatures at locations
along the meandering Brandywine Creek.

Wipeout!

Are you ready
for an awesome week of outdoor adventure? Then this is your
summer camp! You try
not to wipeout while scaling a rock wall at a local rock gym, or
as you explore cave passages under the earth with an experienced
caver! Heat up as you practice your skills at campfire building
but cool off again by paddling your own kayak and splashing your
way down the
Brandywine
with your fellow Brandywine Wipeout campers! Cowabunga! $330

Green
Warriors – with Overnight

Attention! If
you like adventure and care about the earth, then become a BVA
Green Warrior! Earn a Youth Conservation Award while helping
save our planet! The
journey begins with a visit to the Tinicum Wildlife Refuge in
Philadelphia
; work towards earning your award by building bat houses and
participating in a ‘never
been done before at BVA camp’, canoe clean-up on the
Brandywine
! Design your own
eco-warrior cape, get wet with silly water games and make crazy
junk-art, all the while with friends will all be part of the
fun! Relax from all
your hard work by roasting marshmallows, telling campfire
stories and camping in a tent Thursday night at the
Myrick
Center

Survive
Alive! – with Overnight

Can
you hit a bulls-eye with a tom-a-hawk? Navigate at night? Can
you un-swamp your boat on the
Brandywine
? Learn these skills
and more as we learn ways to survive in the wilderness. Learn to
shoot an arrow, catch a fish, build campfires and cook a
fresh-caught snack! Participate in a special hiking adventure;
climbing over boulders, under hemlock trees, along pristine
waters while on the Kelly’s Run loop trail along the
Susquehanna. Finish out this adventurous week with a camp-out at
BVA! Survive Alive!? $250

Shooting
Stars
- FULL
Tuesday, June
18 – Friday, June 21
Become a
shooting star as you take part in our marksmanship challenge.
Learn how to safely shoot a bow and arrow, crossbow air rifle,
22 caliber rifle and shotgun. Learn how to use an atlatl and
sling shot and how to throw a tomahawk; learning why accuracy
was so important to the Lenape. You’ll visit a shooting range
to learn how to shoot trap and skeet and spend a day canoeing
the Brandywine Creek. Your leader for this adventure will be BVA/RCVA’s
Executive Director, Jim Jordan, a certified Hunter Safety and
Shooting Instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching
the shooting sports. This camp will be under safe and strict
supervision! All equipment will be supplied, no experience
necessary. $325 members/ $375 nonmembers

the Beaten Trail

to leave the drama of school behind and find real adventure?!?
A path of fun is waiting for you!
Your adventure week will include two paddling experiences
– kayaking in a southern
Chester
County
lake and canoeing with your camper friends down the Brandywine
Creek. Campers and
counselors guaranteed to return dripping with new experiences!
You will duck out of the sun for an ultimate caving
experience in the middle of the week.
An experienced caver will ensure your trip is safe as
well as exhilarating. $300

Adventures – with Overnight

Are you ready
for crazy, fun adventure! Prove to be adventurous by completing
the Gretna Glen High Ropes Course, mastering a canoe on the
Brandywine, then taking a trip to the beautiful
Raystown
Lake
region. Adventures at Raystown will include a journey through a
beautiful hemlock forest to the stunning
Rainbow
Falls
. You will also see a mystery of nature - Balanced Rock, swim in
Raystown
Lake
, and camp overnight in tents at a nearby campground.

Something
Fishy – with Overnight
July 22 - July
26
If you like to
fish, or want to learn how to fish, this is the week for you!
Learn about different types of equipment and how to use it while
exploring some great freshwater and saltwater fishing spots. You
will learn the art and science of fly casting and how to tie
your own flies. You’ll fish at several local ponds and in the
Brandywine Creek. On Thursday you’ll head to coastal
Delaware
for an overnight camping and saltwater fishing expedition.
You’ll fish off a pier, in the surf and aboard a chartered
fishing boat in the
Delaware Bay
for some offshore fishing. Along the way, learn about saltwater
and freshwater ecosystems and fish biology. Even if you
participated in the past, there’s ALWAYS more to learn! Your
guide for this unique journey will be an avid outdoorsman and
naturalist, BVA/RCVA’s very own Executive Director, Jim
Jordan. Pick up is at 5:00 PM on Friday.
